Riding For The Disabled Association

The local branch of The Riding for the Disabled Association was formed in 1986 at Weelsby Park Riding School who kindly allowed the use of their premises and also the loan of horses and ponies for the riders.

Now nearly 23 years later Cleethorpes and Grimsby have a flourishing branch which holds 6 sessions per week during school term times; 3 times on Wednesday mornings and the remaining 3 on Thursday mornings. No more than 6 pupils ride at any one time.

The charge to all riders is to rise in January 2009 to £6 per session.

We continue to have an excellent working relationship with owners and staff at Weelsby Park Riding School where lessons are still held. The RDA horses are used by the riding school when not used by the group and similarly the riding school horses are used regularly by the RDA.

All age groups and disabilities are catered for and the group have been very successful when competing at regional and national levels against other riders from all parts of the country.

The group are now owners of 4 horses;

Jack – 16HH chestnut gelding

Edward – 14.2HH chestnut gelding

Bertie II – 14HH skewbald gelding

Grant – 17HH bay gelding.

All this could not be achieved without the help of volunteers who either lead the ponies, walk at the side to give confidence to the riders or simply shovel up the droppings which naturally occur during the course of the lessons!

We are always looking for more helpers; experience with horses is not necessary so if anyone feels that they can spare 2-3 hours on 1 or 2 days a week please contact any of the following:-
